This post highlights my peer review on Alex McCarthy's production week progress. Here is a link to the production report I reviewed.
Audience Questions
For this post, I reviewed Alex McCarthy's adaptation of the opening section from the content outline to the rough cut of the QRG. I chose to look at the conventions being utilized and those that are not present in the draft. I suggested that Alex incorporate hyperlinks that allow readers to obtain additional information if they want, and to also increase author credibility by referencing external sources.
I hope that this feedback helps Alex in post-production in terms of following conventions and keeping readers' interests throughout the entire QRG. The use of hyperlinks was originally introduced to us in blog posts, so that is where I drew my suggestion from.
I admire the creativity that was obviously required to produce such an elaborate opening section. There are colorful fonts, photos and formatting styles utilized and I'm sure that my QRG could have been improved significantly if I put in the creative thinking that is required to produce an effective quick reference guide.

Peer Review for Jake Gyles
This post highlights the peer review I did for Jake Gyles' production report.
Audience Questions
Jake Gyles of section 4 produced a standard college essay, of which I examined the adaptations of his conclusion paragraph from his content outline to his rough cut of the project. I elected to look at how convincing the argument was from the conclusion, and how effective his final statements are at accomplishing the purpose of project three.
Honestly, his adaptation was pretty darn good (and concise) so I was unable to offer mechanical suggestions, but I was able to reassure him that his work is coming along nicely, and I hope that that helps him going into post-production week.
In my comment, I mentioned the call to action he leaves as his final sentence. This piece serves as an imperative part of an argumentative essay as it answers the question of the author's purpose in composing the text.
I admire Jake's utilization of a detailed content outline, and his lack of just sticking to lazy bullet pointed lists for his outline like most of us. I admire his intensity during pre-production week and I know I can benefit from taking up similar practices.

Reflection on Production
This post highlights the highs and lows of production week.
Successes
This week I was able to use last week's hard work to produce a relatively pain-free essay in a relatively small amount of time. I think that counts as a success because I was able to use my past self's work to make this weekend easier on myself.
Challenges
Unfortunately, I had a super rough weekend so I wasn't able to start production until later Sunday afternoon. Because of this, there was unnecessary stress surrounding the production of my project, but I am happy to be done!
Predictions
I know that my essay still has a lot of work before it is up to par with what I usually produce, but I am not worried about completing a solid project by this time next week. Thankfully next weekend will not be as crazy so I will have lots of time for editing and revisiting.
Overall
Overall, project three has required the least amount of work for me so far. In general, this scares me because I know it is worth the most out of all of the three projects. I am happy that I chose an essay, however, because I am much more confident in my ability to get my point across in a genre that I am familiar with.

Production Report 11b
This post demonstrates the transformation of my first body section from the content outline to the rough cut. I apologize in advance for my longish excerpt from my essay.

Adaptation of Outline Item
Audience Questions
For the first body section of my project, I used form by adapting the organization of my content to fit into a structured standard college essay. This is seen in the introduce, explain, describe pattern that is prevalent throughout my essay. The production for this body paragraph went well, but I would still like to find more sources and external information to incorporate to provide more information and increase credibility.
Outline Item
- Topic- decriminalization means help for addicts
- Evidence 1- instead of court, fines, prison and a criminal record, drug addicts get rehab, mental health facilities, and therapist help
- Important because friends and family are affected, prison has significant detrimental effects on peoples's lives
- Proves that there is hope for addicts, would improve quality of life for a lot of Americans
- Evidence 2- police interaction in drug affairs would become largely seeking help for addicts
- Proves that police are there to help public
- Important because it would improve citizen-police relations and perhaps limit police violence or anti-police groups
Adaptation of Outline Item
In contemporary society, it is uncommon to encounter someone
who is not directly affected by drug addiction, whether it be first hand or
through a family member or friend. As if addiction alone is not devastating
enough, the incarceration process is excessively tolling on the mentalities of
families. Court dates, fines, probation, ankle braces and house arrests plague
the lives of convicted drug users, and nearly all chance of having a normal,
successful life deteriorates. From a decriminalization standpoint, the
discovery of drug possession or other related crimes by law enforcement
officials would instead result in the rehab and psychiatric help that is much
needed. As a result of this, and in
addition to the fiscal benefits, second chances would be given to people who
have made mistakes, which encourages future societal and political involvement.
Additionally, police interaction with drug users would become less revolved
around fear, violence, and arrests. This would result in improved civilian-cop
relations, which would likely improve overall relations and release tensions
between the people and their government. Furthermore, improved relations have
the potential to decrease police violence and could also serve as a starting
point for reemploying the police department as a protective force rather than
an unwanted opposition to citizens.

Production Report 11a
This post shows the transformation of my opening section from my content outline to my rough cut.

Adaptation of Outline Item
According to the 2016 Mass Incarceration consensus, one in five people in prison are incarcerated for drug related charges (Wagner). In economic terms, 20% of taxpayer money used to fund federal, state, and local prisons is being spent on the maintaining the incarceration of people who are likely drug addicts or small-scale users. Studies show that there are four times as many arrests for drug possession than there are for drug distribution (Wagner). One would assume with the legalization of marijuana around the United States that the main targets of drug busts are hard, dangerous and lethal substances on large-scales, but half of drug busts in recent years have been for possession of small amounts of pot (Marijuana). Obviously the current system is corrupt, but the best solution to the war on drugs has yet to be explored. Drug decriminalization not only decreases the number of prisoners incarcerated, but also increases federal revenue, saves taxpayer money, and treats drug addiction as a medical condition instead of a crime.
Audience Questions
I chose to use a conventional structured introduction paragraph outline to design my opening section. This adaptation of form is not very creative, because the genre as a whole does not provide a ton of creative freedom except in the form of syntax, rhetoric and diction. Because I already had my sources outlined from last week, production was easier in terms of finding information to incorporate. Overall, I think that production week went well in terms of being able to have a nice flow when writing the rough cut.
Outline Item
- Intro with attention grabbing stats about number of people in prisons/cost of incarceration
- Shift into thesis statement, how can we solve this problem? Drug decriminalization lowers number of prisoners, amongst other things
- Thesis- expensive prisons and lots of lives being ruined by petty drug crimes are the problem, decriminalization is the solution

Reflection on Project 3 Pre-Production
This post highlights the ups and downs of project three's pre-production week.
Successes
This week, I was able to pick a topic pretty quickly and conduct some helpful research. I also have a pretty solid outline to work off of next week.
Challenges
I waited way too long to start my blog posts so I was struggling for a few hours but I was able to pull it together. I thank The Life of Pablo for the homework jams.
Predictions
Because essays require more work in general, I think that next week will be a little rough. Fortunately for me, I had a pretty successful pre-production week so I will be prepared content wise.
Overall
Overall, I am most excited for this project so far. This is likely in part because I get to write within a genre that I am familiar with for the first time. Also, I am most interested in my topic for this project and I feel that my passion for the topic will make the writing process easier.

Peer Review for Grant Williams
In this post, I review Grant Williams' rhetorical analysis for project three. I decided to analyze the detail and description put into the rhetorical analysis.
Helpfulness
I advised Grant to add more detail to his rhetorical analysis; however, it seems as though he knows what he is doing and that he is adequately prepared. I would also suggest that he find a topic soon as that will aid him in producing an outline that carries him through production week easily.
Incorporations
In Grant's case, less is more in a rhetorical analysis. Though this strays from typical situations, his short answers cut right to the chase and give readers the answer they need without wasting time. This incorporation isn't from the book, but it's a notable strategy.
Admiration
As previously stated, I admire Grant's curtness. There was no time wasted and no fluff added in the question answering process, which is admirable for time-conserving purposes. Efficiency is a major key.
